We support Tasmanian schools and organisations to create inclusive, accessible environments where children can thrive.

Before You Apply

Community Grants are available by invitation only.

To be considered, organisations must first submit a high-level project overview to Variety – the Children’s Charity Tasmania.

You may be eligible if:

You area registered not-for-profit based and operating in Tasmania.

You directly support children under 18 years old who are living with disability, living with chronic illness or experiencing financial hardship.

Documents Required To Apply

Don’t worry — most families already have these documents available.

A medical letter

A letter from your child’s GP or paediatrician explaining their diagnosis.

It must be dated within the last 3 months.

A therapist letter

A letter from a therapist or allied health professional explaining:

• Why the item will help
• If your child has trialled it
(if relevant)

It must be dated within the last 3 months.

Proof of household income

Recent documents
(within 3 months):

• 3 recent payslips, and/or
• A Centrelink statement

If self-employed: your latest tax return or Notice of Assessment.

Two quotes for the item

• From two suppliers
• Less than 2 months old
• Must include GST and delivery costs

How the Application Process Works

Our team reviews your application carefully and confidentially.
Outcome in 4–6 weeks. 12 months to use the grant

Application

Fill in the form, include documents, letters and quotes.

Assessment

Our team reviews it to make sure it meets the guidelines. If eligible, it is carefully considered by our grants committee.

Outcome

We will explain the next steps via email. If approved, we will organise payment directly to the supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Community Grants do not cover:
  • Retrospective purchases (items already bought)
  • Capital works (buildings, vehicle modifications)
  • Staffing or operational costs
  • Fundraising activities, prizes or scholarships
  • Projects that may result in personal or commercial gain
  • Items already available in your community
  • Projects that can be funded through government or other sources
  • No. If approved, Variety pays the supplier directly.
